September 12: Day for South-South cooperation
12 settembre 2016
Since the adoption of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action for Promoting and Implementing Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries on September 12th, 1978, this day has been commemorated yearly by the United Nations as the Day for South-South Cooperation. The UN’s commemoration of September 12th seeks to remind the world of the need to view South-South Cooperation (i.e. the collaboration between developing and transitioning economies) as complimentary to the more commonly recognized North-South Cooperation in order to overcome specific development challenges as well as global ones.
“As we embark on efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, we need to accelerate development momentum across the South, including by building resilience and mitigating risk.”
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
