Pope: Christ has a message for non-believers

7 gennaio 2014
Thousands of families and pilgrims spent time with Pope Francis to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany at St. Peter’s Square. His message for the Angelus was clear.

“Jesus. He is the epiphany, Jesus Christ is the manifestation of God’s love.”

The Pope said the birth of Christ was the culmination of two movements. The first was God moving closer to the world. Meanwhile while the second was humanity moving closer to God.

The two movements intersected through Jesus, who is both God and man, the Pope added. He went on to say that the Church was part of that second movement of humanity towards God. As such, he sent a message to those who feel distant from the Church.

“The Lord calls you. The Lord seeks you out, the Lord awaits you. The Lord does not proselytize. He gives love, and that love seek you out. It waits for you, who doesn’t believe, or who feels distant at the moment. And that is the God’s love.”

Towards the end of the Angelus, Pope Francis called on Catholics to be “small stars” that light the way towards God, just like the Star of Bethlehem guided the Three Wise Men to Baby Jesus.

He also congratulated all Orthodox “brothers and sisters,” who celebrate Christmas these days, according to the Julian calendar.
