Thank you, Pope Benedict XVI: From Ethiopia
From the time we heard the news about the decision of the Holy Father Benedict XVI to leave the Vatican and to offer his life to the Church through more intensive prayer, the community of our Sisters in Adwa remembered Him and the Church during prayers every day. The smallest members of our mission were coming to the chapel every day.
But today, the last day of the Benedict XVI at the Vatican, was a very special day.
Although there are only very few Catholics in our mission, our chapel was filled all the time with different people praying there for the Pope. All the children of Kindergarten, group after group, came to pray. Also different groups of adults working and teaching in our school joined us in prayers. In the evening the community was united around the Blessed Sacrament in prayers of gratitude for the service of the Holy Father during his Pontificate. We also asked God to protect and bless him. We closed the Adoration with invocation of the Holy Spirit for the Church and especially for the election of the new Pope. Late in the evening almost the whole community gathered in front of the TV to see this historical event. We felt very much united with the whole Church.
