Children of the Canes III: A National Conference for the Protection and Development of Children in the Sugar Industry
On July 12-13, 2012, the Laura Vicuña Foundation Inc. of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government will hold the “CHILDREN OF THE CANES III: A National Conference for the Protection and Development of Children in the Sugar Industry”. More than a hundred key players in the sugar industry, government, civil society groups, faith-based organizations, media the sugar farm workers and child right advocates will come together for a Public Conversation: Call to Action on how to create a socially responsible sugar industry. The industries multi-stakeholders will create a platform for effective collaboration towards achieving sustainable protection and development of children in the sugar industry.
The Keynote Speaker will be DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo. Other guest speakers are Sugar Regulatory Administrator Ms. Regina Bautista-Martin, ILO Project Officer Mr. Giovanni Soledad, NFSP Vice President Mr. Jaime Golez, SIFI Executive Director Ms. Edith Villanueva, DOLE Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom, DSWD Director Minda Brigoli, and others. In partnership with DILG, the Laura Vicuña Foundation takes on the lead in “building a culture of social protection for children in the sugar industry.”

The Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) was awarded 3rd Prize at the 2005 Asia Pacific NGO Awards held at the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore on September 9, 2005.
In the year 2011, LVF receives the SUSTAINABILITY AWARD of the Global Fund for Children. This is an award that recognizes GFC’s most outstanding grantee partners.
