What is Good Friday?

6 aprile 2012

April 5, 2012. (Romereports.com) Each year the Catholic Church celebrates Good Friday. This day marks the death of Jesus on the Cross. It’s a day to mourn His death, with no celebration of Mass, but instead a veneration of the Cross.

There are two readings as well as a reading of the Psalm. Then a priest and two faithful read the Passion. Afterward, there is a display of the crucifix in three stages. In the absence of consecration, communion is given out in consecrated forms on Holy Thursday.

In many places, Good Friday is commemorated with the reenactment of the Via Crucis. Also known as The Way of the Cross, it remembers the fourteen stations of the Passion and Death of Jesus.
