Meeting of the Salesian Youth Movement (Europe) “Small Team”
All the members were present: David Viagulasamy (Coordinator – France), Antonija Klobucar (Croatia), Karolina Kiepas (Poland), Borja Perez (Spain), Michele Zecchin (Italy), Sr. María Angeles Diaz (Spain), Fr Dominic Sequeira and Sr. Runita Borja, respectively from the Youth Ministry Department and Sector of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA).
After a general overview of the work carried out for the WYD, there were updates on several of the initiatives connected with this important event. Large numbers of SYM members are expected to take part and all will be accommodated at Salesian centres. In addition, in order to prepare the young people better for their meeting with the Holy Father, some Provinces have arranged to arrive in Madrid after passing through various significant spiritual places such as Avila, Lourdes or Loyola.
An important day for the SYM at world level will be 17 August: in the morning the Rector Major of the Salesians and the Mother General of the FMA will meet representatives of the various national groups and the Small Team; in the afternoon, at Atocha, over 7000 young people will be waiting for them for a great international celebration.
At the VII General Assembly of SYM Europe, between 25 and 27 November at Fatima, it is estimated that 50 young people, Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians from across the continent will be taking part. There will be three days of discussion, group work and sharing of experiences for the development of the Movement at European level. There will also be a moment of formation based on the search for one’s own vocation in life and on the experience of making a vocational choice. An assessment of the WYD is also planned as are visits to the Sanctuary and time for spiritual reflection.
The Bilbao meeting also included various times for sharing and these helped the group to grow and develop together. In particular the members of the Small Team appreciated the Sunday Mass, the opportunity to speak and discuss with Salesians from the Province; and a guided tour by the younger Salesians of the centre of the city.
