Onwards to World Youth Day 2011: SYM Philippines Come Together for the Salesian Youth Day 2011!
The Salesian Youth Movement of FMA and SDB in the Philippines are already at the height of their preparations for the much awaited Salesian Youth Day 2011, happening on 02-06 April 2011 in St. Mary Mazzarello School, Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
The SYD 2011 carries the theme, “Salesian Youth: In faith we stand, in love we serve”, inspired by the message of St. Paul to the Corinthians to “Stand firm in the faith… do all your work in love.” (1 Cor. 16:13-14). Such Biblical text is being rallied by the Philippine Catholic Church as it declares the year 2011 as the “Year of the Youth” on the occasion of the Silver Anniversary of the Episcopal Commission on Youth of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines. The SYD 2011 comes at another fitting moment where the presence of young people in our Church is given special significance. As the next worldwide gathering of youth will take place in Madrid, Spain in August, 2011, the SYD 2011 is also envisioned to be an occasion to bring the World Youth Day fever, and its meaningful message, to the Salesian youth.
The Salesian Youth Day 2011 also serves as a response to the young people’s wish to have a meaningful occasion for the Salesian youth to celebrate their being part of the Salesian Youth Movement. The said gathering becomes a beautiful occasion to imbibe all the more the Salesian Youth Spirituality, and re-commit themselves to live intensely this spirituality, which has been our proven way to attain holiness in Christ. This endeavor further aims to prepare remotely for the 2013’s 25th Anniversary of the Salesian Youth Movement and the 2015’s Bi-Centennial Birth Anniversary of St. John Bosco, our Father and Teacher!
Hundreds of young people coming from the FMA communities from Luzon and Visayas, as well as young people from the SYM-SDB are expected to participate in this another significant moment in the history of SYM Philippines. Coming also to join in this momentous event are selected Salesian youth, together with their animators, from South Korea and Vietnam.
It is hoped that through the Salesian Youth Day, young people of the SYM will draw inspiration from the legacy of St. John Bosco, St. Mary Mazzarello, and our many other young Salesian Saints, to be truly rooted in our faith in God, facing the challenges of our time with renewed zeal and enthusiasm, keeping true to St. John Bosco’s vision of forming “good Christians and honest citizens.”
