Pope Benedict XVI’s message to the young people gathered in Rotterdam for the Taizé Pilgrmage of Trust
On all of you together in Rotterdam at the invitation of the Taizé Community, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI invokes the strength and peace of the Holy Spirit, as well as on the pastors, congregations and families who are welcoming you. With the brothers of Taizé who are animating this 33rd young adult European meeting, may God guide you to the wellsprings of joy!
You are discovering these days that this joy does not take you away from solidarity with the sufferings of humanity, but is intimately related to trust in God. By living in this trust, by welcoming it, you permit this radical renewal of the human being that Christ came to bring. Thus you will be filled with the courage to swim against the stream when necessary. Not giving in to the mirage of individualism, you will become ever more men and women of communion, through the gift of yourselves for others.
When you return to your countries, may the Holy Spirit fill you with boundless compassion, may he communicate to you imagination and courage so you can discover how to transform your local communities into places of heartfelt kindness and trust. The peace he will give you will thus radiate outwards for others and for the world.
Inviting you also to join him in Madrid next August for World Youth Day, the Holy Father entrusts you to the intercession of the Virgin Mary, Mother of believers, who at Cana witnessed the joy her Son came to bring to the world, and he sends you an affectionate apostolic blessing with all his heart.
